Persian Miniatures & Calligraphy
With Roshan Houshmand

Two Saturdays, September 17 & 24

Persian_Painting

In this educational and entertaining 2-day workshop,
students will be exploring several aspects of Persian art.
On day one, there will be a short power point presentation
on Islamic and Persian art and architecture followed by
two projects; painting carpet designs on canvas bookmarks
and embossing Persian designs on copper. On day two
the projects will include an introduction to the Farsi alphabet,
writing calligraphy using reed pens and ink, and doing a
Persian Miniature painting.

Iranian/American artist, Roshan Houshmand was born in the
Philippines. She has a BA, MA, and MFA in fine arts. She has
lived in the US, Iran, Spain, Italy, the Philippines, and Cyprus,
with extensive time spent traveling the world.

Ms. Houshmand’s work has been exhibited in galleries in
Europe and the US She is a 2005 and 2010 recipient of the
NY State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant and a
2006 grant recipient from the US Department of State Art
in Embassies Program for the exhibition “21st Century American
Women Artists” at Truman Hall, US Mission to NATO in
Brussels, Belgium. In 2010 she also received an SOS Grant from
the New York Foundation for the arts as well as an Olive and
Lindsay B. O'Connor Grant.
She currently is an adjunct professor
at State University of New York at Delhi, New York.
